We don't have it in Australia... I think this is a horrific crime. I have created a Facebook page in the hopes of raising awareness of this injustice:

Australia is quite low on rootbeer in general... it's horrible!

Also, have you noticed it doesn't have caffeine anymore? What's with that? That in itself is an injustice for sure....

No, I didn't... that's weird. I don't drink it a lot, since I've been in Canada very little in the last little while. It takes the same, though, right?

You should send some to me in the mail.

No it actually doesn't... It is to it's former caffeinated state as Aussie Mtn Dew is to the real deal.

I was disappointed. But still, it's better than Mugs.

Have you ever TRIED mailing canned soda? Pretty sure its illegal.

That doesn't even make sense why they would do that. Didn't they already  have diet Barq's?

I don't drink Soda typically. The only one I make an exception for is Root Beer, specifically Barq's.
Thus I have not sat down and purposely had a soda in over a year.
I should be one of those sad cases and stories people use to raise awareness of injustices ;)
Oh wait! I lied. Metsuda brought me Barq's back from Canada when he visited his family several long months ago.
But I shared it.
I wanted to show the Aussies what good soda tasted like!

And yes... the lack of caffeine is very disturbing...
There's a very strange division going on with our drinks. Have you noticed? They're all either going completely caffeine free... or upping the caffeine to levels that could rival Speed's effects... what's with that?! What happened to your everyday, average caffeinated drink? Why does everything have to be extreme on one end or the other?

It's a travesty I say! A travesty!

I'm okay with extremity.

Also, Stephwan is bringing me root beer back from Canada!

Sorry to say it, but yes, Aussie soda is terrible. I agree about the "extremity" in sodas... I am a soda fiend. As someone who likes a little caffeine from time to time, but actually physically can't take too high levels of it, it's getting a little difficult.

Ok, so Steph's bringing so back for you? I'd like to know how she's going to manage that! I wanted to bring some Aussie coke home so my family could see how badly it tasted, but couldn't figure out how. :P

She bringing any reeses? I'm pretty sure I ate about half of the ones your family sent you when I was there.

I'm not sure if she is bringing Reece's, or not. I can get them here, though, I've discovered.

As for Root Beer... I brought five 600ml bottles back with me; I just put them in my baggage. I tried to do cans... but they would probably explode, so I bought plastic bottles.

Ha ha, so the cans of Barq's was great. Marisa and I went out one night when I was in Calgary, and I was buying stuff to bring back to Oz before we went to dinner, and I bought a 12 pack of Barq's 300ml cans. After dinner, I remembered how to get to this one lookout place that we'd been looking for earlier in the week... on the way, though, I had to suddenly stop for a changing light. The cans, sitting on the back seat without their seatbelt on, were launched into the air and back on the ground... one then exploded all over the place and another was leaking quite badly.

By the time we noticed they were leaking, though, we had turned on to a one-way street where stopping wasn't allowed; we stopped anyways, if only to empty the cans... then drove the rest of the way to the lookout before examining the "damage."

I decided at that juncture to NOT fly cans of soda on the airplane.

Blasphemy!

Root Beer is a soda that basically is like ginger beer, except instead of being made from ginger root, it's made from licorice root... so it takes like a sweet liquid version of back licorice. It doesn't taste like black licorice... but similar. It's brilliant.

I am also a part of this conversation...

It'll be no use their putting their heads down and saying "Come up again, dear!" I shall only look up and say "Who am I then? Tell me that first, and then, if I like being that person, I'll come up: if not, I'll stay down here till I'm somebody else"

Licorice [and so of course Root Beer] is a glorious thing. It is a great tragedy that you are allegeric, I pity you. However, don't be too downcast--there is hope! Most sodas are artificially flavoured these days. Booyah!

Mmm rootbeer of all sorts is good, provided it isn't diet. Some diet sodas are bearable, but never diet rootbeer. EVER.

I have to say that now that Barqs doesn't have caffeine anymore, it has most certainly downgraded.... I think A&W definitely wins now.
